Cocaine Induced Psychosis: a Literature Review and a Prevalence Study in Local Cocaine Abusers

This project aims at studying the characteristics of cocaine abusers in Hong Kong. Phase 1 of the study aims to identify risk factors, frequency, symptoms, pathological mechanism and treatment of Cocaine Induced Psychosis (CIP) via comprehensive literature review, while Phase II aims to assess CIP and psychotic symptoms in individual cocaine users at community level by means of systematic diagnostic interviews in cross-sectional study; to report on the prevalence and characteristics of and risk factors for CIP; and to examine the prevalence of emotional disorders and anxiety disorders among cocaine users.

It aims to consolidate consensus among stakeholders in developing an evaluation framework for evidence-based drug treatment and rehabilitation practice, as well as formulate practical evaluation guidelines, including validation of measurement tools to help conceptualising, planning and commissioning evaluation of treatment services.

This project aims at providing preventive education and build up young people’s awareness of drug harms among primary and secondary school students. Day-camps will be arranged for primary school students to teach them about drug harms. Secondary students of the applicant school will be recruited to lead the programmes so as to develop their leadership skills and deepen their perception of risk associated with drug abuse.

This project aims at reaching out to young night drifters and ethnic minority youths and improving the anti-drug awareness of at-risk young people. In conjunction with outreaching services, art jamming activities, outward bound training and orienteering games will be arranged. Vocational training, micro-movie workshops, musical instrument training, anti-drug talks and seminars will be organised. Ethnic minority and high risk youths will co-organise a musical show to disseminate anti-drug messages to the public.

This project aims at raising the general public’s awareness on drug harm by the production of an anti-drug bus TV programme and online interactive promotion with programme broadcasting. The programme will be edited from real stories of ex-drug abusers and their families. Celebrities will be invited to host the programme to be broadcasted on buses. The broadcast programme will be promoted online through Roadshow website, web-radio station and Facebook.
